Jesus of Nazareth is one of the most familiar names in history. But knowing his name isn’t the same as truly knowing him.
For Christians, Jesus is not simply a spiritual teacher or a remarkable man. He is the Son of God made man, who came to share our humanity and lead us to the Father. Through his life, his words, his death, and his resurrection, he reveals the love of God — a love that draws near, forgives, lifts us up, and opens a path to new life.
At the heart of Christian faith, then, is an encounter with Jesus Christ. Today, as ever, he calls each of us to follow him, to know the Father, and to learn from him a new way of loving and living.
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”
John 14:6
To begin getting to know him:
- Read a few pages of one of the Gospels — Mark or Luke are good places to start;
- Attend Mass and listen for the Word being proclaimed;
- Talk with someone of faith, or a member of a parish team;
- Take a few quiet minutes and simply say: “Jesus, help me to know you.”
