The Catholic Church of Montreal does not only teach: she opens her arms and her heart to people in need. Indeed, on October 2, 2017, the Archdiocese of Montreal welcomed asylum seekers by creating a new centre called “Le Pont” (The Bridge).
This diocesan centre has since become an independent non-profit organization called “Le Pont – A.P.P.I,” whose purpose is to welcome, support, protect and integrate. Visit their new website to learn more: lepontappi.org
More bridges, fewer walls
Why choose the name Le Pont? Bishop Pierre Blanchard, director of the Office for Cultural and Ritual Communities, explains: “A bridge is used to go from one place to another, from where we are to where we are going.”
The opening of Le Pont makes Archbishop Christian Lépine very proud; he wore a T-shirt bearing its slogan, More bridges, fewer walls. “It is a human adventure, open to all.”
Le Pont, a sign of God’s loving presence in the Church and in society
Archbishop Christian Lépine recalled our shared duty to bring “a balm to the hearts of those who suffer.”
Bishop Alain Faubert, Auxiliary Bishop of Montreal, shares his great joy at seeing the centre make God present. “This is how the Gospel bears fruit.”
Arthur Durieux, the centre’s coordinator, states: “Le Pont is a family.”

Volunteering tailored to you
Would you like to join this great and beautiful family by giving a little – or a lot – of your time? Le Pont constantly needs volunteers to help it meet its daily challenges: sorting donations, activities with the children and the women of the centre, organizing outings, etc.
Every day, beneficiaries receive clothing, toys and, whenever possible, fresh food. Thanks to the support of Catholic Action and many donors, beneficiaries also receive free furniture.
Contact us by email (info@lepontappi.org) or by phone at 514 715-5847, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or make an online donation.
