What Does It Mean to Be Catholic?

Being Catholic doesn’t mean being perfect, or having every answer. It means choosing to follow Jesus Christ within the Church — a worldwide community that receives the faith of the Apostles and hands it on from one generation to the next.

Catholic life is nourished by the Word of God, by prayer, by the sacraments, by community, and by service. Little by little, it reshapes how we live, work, love, forgive, and care for those most in need.

The word “catholic” means “universal.” In Montreal, that universality shows in the many languages, cultures, ages, and life stories that make up our local Church.

“Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”

1 Corinthians 12:27
