Father Francesco Loprete of the Diocese of Crotone and artist Maurizio Giglio went to the beach that was the scene of the tragedy that cost the lives of dozens and dozens of migrants. Together they picked up some remains of the vessel, which ended up on the shoreline. On the meaning of the work, Giglio commented, “Christ is stylized, there is only one arm. It is as if He is reaching out to us from the top of the Cross. An invitation to repent, a message of salvation. I did not make this work with joy, far from it. When touching the Cross you really feel all the pain and the cries of those poor people.” Following his appeal made during the Sunday Angelus on March 5, 2023, that “the journeys of hope never more be transformed into journeys of death,” Pope Francis repeated his call for “welcome and solidarity” towards migrants.

For more information, you may contact Cristina Ardelean, Executive Director of the En Route Foundation, a nonprofit corporation which sustains the missionary and educational work of Communion and Liberation in Canada.

On the occasion of Good Friday, Communion and Liberation (CL Canada) organizes the Way of the Cross procession led by Archbishop…

[31

post-7740","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nouvelle
["GET
