{"id":6784,"date":"2022-01-04T16:16:49","date_gmt":"2022-01-04T21:16:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diocesemontreal.wp.vortexdev.com\/en\/news\/news-2\/popes-january-prayer-intention-those-who-suffer-religious-persecution\/"},"modified":"2022-01-04T16:16:49","modified_gmt":"2022-01-04T21:16:49","slug":"popes-january-prayer-intention-those-who-suffer-religious-persecution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diocesemontreal.wp.vortexdev.com\/en\/news\/news-2\/popes-january-prayer-intention-those-who-suffer-religious-persecution\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope\u2019s January prayer intention: For those who suffer religious persecution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vaticannews.va\/en\/pope\/news\/2022-01\/pope-s-january-prayer-intention-for-those-who-suffer-religious.html\">Vatican News<\/a><br \/>\n<br \/>\n\u201cHow can we allow that in this society, which is so civilized, there are people who are persecuted simply because they publicly profess their faith?\u201d asks Pope Francis in the video for his monthly prayer intention for January 2022.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cHow is it possible that many religious minorities currently suffer discrimination or persecution?\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>The January prayer intention marks the beginning of the seventh year of the Pope Video, a ministry of the Pope\u2019s Worldwide Prayer Network.<br \/>\nIn his message released on Tuesday, the Holy Father says that persecuting people simply because they publicly profess their faith is \u201cinhuman\u201d and \u201cinsane.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>A worldwide phenomenon<\/strong><br \/>\n<br \/>\nCatholic charity Aid to the Church in Need, which is supporting this month\u2019s message, notes in its annual \u201cReligious Freedom in the World\u201d report that worldwide, religious freedom is violated in one out of every three countries, comprising around two-thirds of the total world population.<\/p>\n\n<p>More than 646 million Christians, ACN reports, live in countries that do not respect religious freedom.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Recognising others as brothers and sisters<\/strong><br \/>\n<br \/>\nPope Francis emphasizes that \u201creligious freedom is not limited to freedom of worship,\u201d but \u201cmakes us appreciate others in their differences and recognise them as true brothers and sisters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>Even substantial differences, such as religious differences, should \u201cnot obscure the great unity of being brothers and sisters.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cLet us choose the path of fraternity.
