\n“The Grand S\u00e9minaire de l\u2019Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al has been called to broaden its scope with the creation of an extensive vocational, educational, social and cultural centre in Saint-Ars\u00e8ne Parish. This new visual context is a clear indication of the important role occupied by this great institution which will train our Catholic faithful of tomorrow in a broad variety of vocations,” said Archbishop Christian L\u00e9pine of Montreal.<\/p>\n\n

“The new visual identity of the Grand S\u00e9minaire de l\u2019Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al reflects the processes of opening up, the renewal and transformation taking place within our institution,” said Father Guy Guindon, PSS, Rector of the Grand S\u00e9minaire de l\u2019Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al, adding, “In addition to providing training to our future priests and permanent deacons, we are offering courses in philosophy, theology and pastoral care to the public through our partnership with Universit\u00e9 Laval. In this way, our mission and commitment are better represented.”<\/p>\n\n

The event was held at Saint-Ars\u00e8ne church, located near the new Grand S\u00e9minaire in Rosemont La Petite Patrie, and provided an occasion to show three video presentations soon to be posted on YouTube as part of the Fondation du Grand S\u00e9minaire de Montr\u00e9al\u2019s major fundraising campaign, the goal of which is to raise $8.5 million over five years.<\/p>\n\n

“The purpose of these videos is to describe our mission as the financial pillar of the new Grand S\u00e9minaire and to explain our plans of how to make the funds we raise bear fruit, in order to ensure the institution\u2019s continuity and effect the revamping of the training it provides. We are embarking on a more sustained phase of our first major fundraising campaign, with an updated image that is more representative of our role,” said S\u00e9bastien Froidevaux, Executive Director of the Fondation du Grand S\u00e9minaire de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n\n

The two institutions held their unveilings together. The Archbishop of Montreal had created a new corporation in 2019, called the Grand S\u00e9minaire de l’Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al, whose purpose is to manage a new generation of the Grand S\u00e9minaire. Since its founding, the institution had been managed by the Sulpician Fathers.  To facilitate the transition, the Fondation du Grand S\u00e9minaire de Montr\u00e9al became the main financial backer of the GSAM, as well as owning the building that houses it, located at the corner of Boyer and B\u00e9langer. The two intertwined roles are reflected in the institutions\u2019 identities.<\/p>\n\n

\nAbout the Grand S\u00e9minaire de l\u2019Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al (gsam-montreal.org<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Since 1840, the chief mission of the Grand S\u00e9minaire de l\u2019Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al has been the training of priests with a profound commitment to Jesus Christ. <\/p>\n\n

As of 2021, the new Grand S\u00e9minaire has become a centre for basic general training in philosophy, theology and pastoral ministry for the preparation of future priests and permanent deacons, and accessible to religious as well as to lay people from Montreal and the environs, through partnership with the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of Universit\u00e9 Laval. The Grand S\u00e9minaire de l\u2019Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al also offers a new training program for the permanent diaconate.<\/p>\n\n

Since August 2020, the Grand S\u00e9minaire has been settled in a new habitat with a human dimension, located in Saint-Ars\u00e8ne P\u00e0rish, in the heart of the popular neighbourhood of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie.<\/p>\n\n

\nAbout the Fondation du Grand S\u00e9minaire de Montr\u00e9al (gsam-montreal.org\/foundation<\/a>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Created in 1984 by the Alumni Association of the Grand S\u00e9minaire and a group of lay people, the Fondation du Grand S\u00e9minaire de Montr\u00e9al is the principal financial backer of the Grand S\u00e9minaire de l\u2019Archidioc\u00e8se de Montr\u00e9al. The Fondation is currently conducting its first major fundraising campaign, with the goal of raising $8.5 million over a five-year period.

\nThrough this first campaign and the related fundraising activities, the Fondation is furnishing tangible support for the development of a new generation of increasingly committed Catholic leaders. <\/p>\n\n
