{"id":12185,"date":"2026-10-16T09:29:19","date_gmt":"2026-10-16T13:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/diocesemontreal.wp.vortexdev.com\/actualites\/nouvelles\/saint-paul-church-update-next-steps\/"},"modified":"2026-10-16T09:29:19","modified_gmt":"2026-10-16T13:29:19","slug":"saint-paul-church-update-next-steps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/diocesemontreal.wp.vortexdev.com\/en\/news\/news-2\/saint-paul-church-update-next-steps\/","title":{"rendered":"Saint-Paul Church: An Update on Next Steps"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Since the fire at Saint-Paul Church in Montreal&#8217;s Sud-Ouest borough in February, a series of expert assessments has been carried out to evaluate the condition of the building and secure the site.<\/p>\n\n<p>Structural engineers have concluded that parts of the building cannot be safely preserved, in part because the fire weakened the mortar in the affected walls.<\/p>\n\n<p>A Quebec Superior Court ruling has since authorized the necessary work, clearing the way for demolition of those sections to begin soon. It is the latest in a series of measures taken since the fire to keep the site and the surrounding area safe.<\/p>\n\n<p>The demolition does not include the church&#8217;s fa\u00e7ade or the sacristy at the rear, and the presbytery will also be preserved.<\/p>\n\n<p>No decision has yet been made about the future of the site.
