Financial assistance from the project will help transport sick children to the nearest hospitals, whether by river, air, or land, depending on the accessibility of local health posts.

This remote high-Amazon region is home to roughly 16,000 people spread across 6,086 km². River communities and surrounding neighborhoods often lack basic sanitation, resulting in a high prevalence of waterborne diseases.

“The jungle is a wonderful place, inhabited by equally wonderful people, yet they live in conditions of great hardship and vulnerability,” says Father Miguel Ángel Marugán, project coordinator on the ground.

“From our conversations with Father Miguel Ángel, we’ve learned that young people in the Peruvian vicariate actively contribute to their families’ survival through fishing and artisanal work,” explains Ginette Côté, national coordinator of Mond’Ami.

Mond’Ami is calling on Canadians to support the transportation of children to medical centers.
