The Catholic Church of Montreal does not only teach: she opens her arms and her heart to people in need. Indeed, on October 2, 2017, the Archdiocese of Montreal welcomed asylum seekers by creating a new centre called \u201cLe Pont\u201d (The Bridge).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This diocesan centre has since become an independent non-profit organization called \u201cLe Pont – A.P.P.I,\u201d whose purpose is to welcome, support, protect and integrate. Visit their new website to learn more: lepontappi.org<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

More bridges, fewer walls<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Why choose the name Le Pont<\/em>? Bishop Pierre Blanchard, director of the Office for Cultural and Ritual Communities, explains: \u201cA bridge is used to go from one place to another, from where we are to where we are going.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Archbishop Christian L\u00e9pine recalled our shared duty to bring \u201ca balm to the hearts of those who suffer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bishop Alain Faubert, Auxiliary Bishop of Montreal, shares his great joy at seeing the centre make God present. \u201cThis is how the Gospel bears fruit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arthur Durieux, the centre\u2019s coordinator, states: \u201cLe Pont is a family.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
